CBD, unlike THC, is non-psychoactive therefore it does not make you forgetful or lose touch with your clear-thinking capabilities. In fact, CBD, when critically studied and reviewed can hold many potential therapeutic opportunities, especially for conditions relating to brain health.

Why doesn’t CBD get you high like THC?

CBD and THC are both cannabinoids but they interact very differently with the body. CBD does not affect the brain’s neurotransmitters in the same way that THC does. THC activates a transmitter known as CB1 and this is part of what causes the “high” feeling. CBD on the other hand can actually block THC from doing this, in effect, it acts as a sobriety compound. This is why CBD products can’t make you high, provided the balance between CBD and THC favors the role of CBD.

CBD and seizures

This is possibly one of the biggest contributions that has given CBD its reputation as a potential therapeutic agent. Sufferers have reportedly experienced significant reductions in seizures that stem from various conditions, including one of the most challenging - epilepsy. The exact reason CBD appears to be so effective is only theoretical at this point. The research suggests that CBD, being a cannabinoid, reduces neuronal excitability in the human endocannabinoid system. The research is still ongoing but CBD is now FDA-approved as a treatment against epilepsy.

CBD and serotonin

CBD’s ati-depressant and anti-anxiety effects on the brain do not quite work in the same way that pharmaceutical medications do. Rather than changing the way in which serotonin works or altering your serotonin levels, CBD enhances the effects of the serotonin that’s already in your system by making your neuroreceptors more receptive. Without altering your state of mind, CBD can reduce the symptoms of depression and anxiety.

CBD has therapeutic properties for treating substance addiction

CBD has an interesting effect on the way in which the brain behaves towards substances that are habit-forming. It reduces cravings and can fortify efforts at curbing addiction. In a study, heroin users who were given CBD were recorded to have fewer of the side effects that go along with quitting, like anxiety. This is also thought to be caused by the way in which cannabinoids interact with the human endocannabinoid system.
